Dear WCC colleagues and friends, As we approach the end of 2025, it is traditional for us to look back on (and forwards to) the World Chlorine Council’s (WCC) activities. In October 2025, WCC held a successful Safety Seminar in Vancouver as part of our Annual Meeting. In this event, it became apparent that many regions see safe loading and unloading of our products as being of supreme importance and in need of constant vigilance. Learnings were shared on best practices here so that all attendees could benefit and, as a result, we are already seeing the results of this in regional activities. Learnings on this topic (and more!) are shared as part of the regular Safety Newsletter, which continues to benefit from input from all WCC regions (please contact the secretariat for more info here). Then, in the WCC Annual Meeting which followed, common issues around asbestos, mercury and PFAS were discussed. There were also considerations on how to ensure that our member’s knowledge on water disinfection can best be made available to all stakeholders. The meeting also evaluated a webinar, held in early 2025, on the Global Plastics Treaty. Progress here, whilst still being uncertain, may one day have an impact on some of our industry’s key products. The meeting finalised by looking at 2025 as a year of change for WCC. With Dr. Marleen Pauwels stepping out of Euro Chlor, I have taken over coordination of the WCC secretariat and leadership of the team of chlor-alkali experts we have here in Brussels. WCC also discussed a new structure for WCC; one that reflects the evolving challenges our sector faces. To do this we are aligning our meetings with our member’s key events and will pilot this in Mexico City next year when we will have our annual meeting with the 2026 Clorosur Technical Seminar (17-20 November); we hope to see you there! Looking forwards, Euro Chlor will hand over secretariat duties to Frank Reiner and his team at The Chlorine Institute as of 01 January. We know that you will support them as strongly as you have us, and hope you will join us in wishing them every success in this endeavour. From the entire WCC secretariat here in Brussels, we wish you and your loved ones a safe, healthy and successful 2026, Best wishes, Richy Mariner
